DMA Women’s Day 2018

Friday, February 23, 2018 was an historic day in the life of the women’s ministry of Reformed Episcopal Church as the Diocese of Mid-America hosted its first Women’s Day Project Offering Luncheon. The luncheon was the first of five scheduled during 2018 as part of the decentralization of the location of the luncheons from Philadelphia to locations within each diocese. This luncheon was not only the first to be held in the Diocese of Mid-America, but also the first to be held outside of the Northeast since its inception. The luncheon was held at the Church of the Holy Communion in Dallas, TX.  Following a delicious Texas-style Barbecue lunch, the Most Reverend Ray R. Sutton, Presiding Bishop of the Reformed Episcopal Church, and Bishop Ordinary of the Diocese of Mid-America extended an encouraging welcome to those in attendance citing the important work past project offerings have helped to accomplish, including the development of this very diocese.

The Rev. Canon William “Bill” Jerdan led in the Morning Prayer Service, and Mrs. Susan Sutton delivered the message based on this year’s theme:  “Living (Aging) in Grace” – “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever.” 2 Peter 3:18 (NKJV). We were delighted to have with us Dr. Barbara J. West, upon whose writings for our 2018-2019 Devotional Studies theme was based.

The goal for this year’s project is to raise $7,500 to support our REC 100 initiative to plant 100 new churches in the Reformed Episcopal Church denomination during the triennium, and to encourage and reinforce established churches. In addition to the “firsts” mentioned above, It is believed that this project is the first to coincide with a Reformed Episcopal Church-wide ministry – REC 100.

Trinity Sunday 2013

There are two things I love about Trinity Sunday: The Lorica and The Athanasian Creed.  According to Christian monasticism a “lorica” is a prayer recited for protection.  Tradition tells us that St. Patrick would recite the words of his lorica each morning upon rising.  Continue reading
